If you're looking to legally fly a drone for commercial purposes in the United States, you'll need to obtain an FAA drone license, also known as a Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
1. Study for the Exam: The first step is to study for the FAA Part 107 exam. There are many online resources available to help you prepare for the test.
2. Schedule and Pass the Test: Schedule your exam at an FAA-approved testing center and pass with a score of 70% or higher.
3. Submit Your Application: Once you pass the exam, submit your application for the Remote Pilot Certificate through the FAA's Integrated Airman Certification and Rating Application (IACRA) system.
Once you have your FAA drone license, you must adhere to certain regulations:
- Fly under 400 feet AGL (above ground level) and within visual line of sight.
- Do not fly over people or moving vehicles unless directly participating in the operation.
- Respect airspace restrictions and prohibitions, and obtain any necessary waivers.
Your FAA drone license is valid for two years. To renew it, you'll need to pass a recurrent knowledge test every 24 months.
