Overview of FAA Drone License
If you want to get an FAA drone license to legally fly drones for commercial purposes in the United States, you need to obtain a Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate. This certification is issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Requirements for FAA Drone License
To qualify for the FAA drone license, you must be at least 16 years old, be able to read, speak, write, and understand English, and be in a physical and mental condition to safely operate a drone. Additionally, you must pass the FAA's Part 107 Knowledge Test.
Steps to Get Your FAA Drone License
- Studying: Prepare for the Part 107 Knowledge Test by studying the FAA's official Remote Pilot - Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Study Guide.
- Scheduling the Test: Schedule an appointment to take the test at an approved FAA testing center.
- Taking the Test: On the day of your test, bring your identification and take the 60-question multiple-choice exam.
- Passing Grade: To pass, you need to score at least 70% on the exam.
- Obtaining Your Certificate: Once you pass the exam, complete the FAA Form 8710-13 online to receive your Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
Renewing Your FAA Drone License
Your Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate expires after 24 months. To renew your FAA drone license, you can either retake the Part 107 Knowledge Test or complete online training courses on FAA's website.
